yup, know those critters, there are several around, just look here
http://www.via.com.tw/en/initiatives/spearhead/ and you'll find some of
them (and btw then there are the boards from Soekris, PC-Engines and
others); thanks for your suggestion, but at this point I prefer running
the critter out of "raw pieces" than using an already assembled "box" :)

I'll do, but don't hold your breath; probably it will take "some"
(spare) time; at the moment, as I wrote I'm oriented toward the VIA
pico-itx as the platform (in particular I'm looking at
http://www.via.com.tw/en/products/embedded/artigo/index.jsp) now I'll
have to select a suitable "mini" linux or BSD distro "tuned" to run from
a flash card and then I'll be ready to move on
