Did you ever check if the something before ASSP (IE firewall smtp proxy or similar) might be causing the email to drop due to a malicious nature? I've had this happen to me before. The email makes it into the ASSP log, but never gets into the MTA log because it never completes the full transaction with the MTA (because the proxy before or after ASSP drops the connection).
