Scott,
I get a similar feel recently.

Recently the developer input seems to have disappeared.

Others rarely to contribute (though you are a notable exception), and I have
frequently hesitated to ask questions based on prior vitriolic responses, or
after getting no response at all.

ASSP is a *wonderful* tool and the developers deserve more praise than we could
ever heap on them, but I fear it's dying on the vine, and that would be a real
shame.

For now, I intend to ask my questions and report my bugs in the Forums to see
where that gets me.

Thank you!
I do not get it, it is as if every aspect of ASSP outside the actual
dev mailing list and of course the great software it is, is a little
bit of a pain. The users mailing list is very low traffic, I try to
lend a hand there when I can. I just found out the other day, the
forums are apparently the preferred place to go.

I resisted the forums in the past, but I tried to use them again. I
see a very familiar phpBB set of forums, and see no "register" link,
which was just strange. On a lark, I click "login" and I am greeted
with an http auth box.

So now, I have to know to go to sf.net and get an account there? I
did so, used a login name I wanted to change, to find out I can not.
Then I find out, you can not, in any way, delete a sf.net account. So
I login, change my email address to mailinator and abandon that account.

Curious, what happened to my old data that was in the old forums, who
ended up with that data?

It is in phpBB, but wrapped up in http auth, which is so incredibly
confusing to the end user. I emailed a listed admin a few months
back, when the whole wiki and forums disappeared, offering to simply
host them at my colo. Nothing.

So I put the offer out again, happy to install phpBB, import the old
data, and give a user a normal, not bound to sf.net joining
experience. I will publicly state now, if at any time, any admin
wants the data, they can have it. I will publicly offer to maintain
the forums, manage spam, and actually reply to emails and support
issues that go with managing a forum. Heck, I will even buy a domain
and register it in the name of ASSP so it is less confusing to end
users.

If I see an http auth box, I assume, this is a admin only, invite only
forum. I bet most others assume that as well. How many take the time
to post here and find out? At the very least, delegate the current
forums to someone who will maintain them, create a sub forum called
"Trouble accessing the forum", and explain it in there. Not idea,
but better.

Thanks for listening.
