Just to follow up on this...
It appears that the problem was that the mail server ASSP was connecting
to was running out of incoming connections. When that happened, ASSP was
noting in the log that it was unable to connect to the mail server and
then returned the 502 AUTH not supported error.

Hi, I sent the message below back on January 22, but didn't see any
responses, so I'm sending it again, since I'm seeing the error more
frequently.
Any pointers would be appreciated.
Thanks!
I have someone trying to send me email and ASSP is rejecting the
email with:
'550 5.0.350 Remote server returned an error -> 502 AUTH not
supported'
Need more information. What are your settings? Do you have TLS/SSL
enabled? Are you requiring SSL/TLS for auth? (AUTHrequireTLS) May need
to check the versions of SSL you are supporting.
I would crank up logging, to verbose/debug, for connection, verify,
user validation and any others that make sense. Really cannot have to
much output from the problematic sender. Usually the logs will
tell/show you what the problem is in more detail.
Really need a lot more information both on your config, and log of what
is happening when the email is rejected/denied.
