Since that works, you can use the web interface to see what dtmfmode the
spa-xxxx is using and set your softphone to use the same.

What about the * extension 600 echo test? Did you try that? You should
be able to hear dtmf echoed back except for # which takes you out of the
test.
The codec and dtmfmode have to be compatible. You can force them for one
provider only in sip.conf and iax.conf to test this.
