I don't have hard facts on this unit as I'm still contemplating getting one.
You don't think of it as a "base" with a certain range like a 2.4GHz home phone. If the unit has a SIM and you have one in your phone from the same provider, the unit can be sitting in the west coast and you can make a free in-network call from the east coast to the unit and DISA into your * box and vice versa.
