It's not that difficult to set up a server and do some live tests. We're doing a similar thing at present for a 100 seat call centre and are looking to migrate the call recording to a second server to reduce the risk of locking up the main VoIP server.
PS. Dual processors are overkill unless you have an Asterisk version that supports it (we don't). Basically this system is for a call center with 25 agents at present and would expand to 50 within 6 months, so there would be 50 simultaneous G729 calls happening most of the time. Call recording would also be needed in this situation for all the calls. I would like to learn if there is any kind of benchmark available for CPU / RAM requirement considering the following factors. A) Simultaneous channels Usage B) Codecs Usage C) Recording usage D) MeetMe conference usage E) other factors which are directly relating to system performance. Most of the time while deciding upon server hardware, usally over buy happens (i.e. Dual / Quad Xeons with extra fat RAM loaded up, and the server never reaches above 30% of usage) If we can make some kind of matrix based on real data, It shall help community reduce over buying of hardware, funds saved can be better utilized else where.
