See if these commands shed some light.
uname -a
grep astrundir /etc/asterisk/asterisk.conf
ps -ef | grep asterisk
ls -l /var/run/asterisk.ctl
sudo /usr/sbin/asterisk -rx "show channels"
If not, please reply with the output from each.
