Guess I'm going to have to do some reading.
I don't want a VOIP based solution. We'd like to get numbers through the phone company, and use Asterisk as a standard pbx.

or some other provider?
I think once you've done that, you'll be ready to ask better questions. The first few that come to mind are soft versus hard phones, T1 or ISDN or not, channel bank or not, etc.
