The "r" option to Dial, Playtones, and Ringing are all hacks/workarounds for when Asterisk cannot indicate ringing to the calling party. You should diagnose and fix the real problem, rather than try hiding the issue.
How do these statements work with my PRI which asterisk will not make ring tone unless I specify 'r' ? Doesn't seem like much of a hack to me...
My PRI always gives the caller ringback, both incoming and outgoing calls. Lots of people use PRIs without "r".
