and the simple SELECTs that Asterisk would use would be among these certain 
queries?

and the performance 'hit' for using ODBC is going to be *noticed* on a 
telephony application?  (as opposed to a high volume, high access DB system)

Basically what I'm asking is whether there is a *need* to add the MySQL 
specific code or if it's just a gut feeling that it's needed?  Analyze, then 
optimize.  Not the other way around.  :-)
