If the device is only a buzzer, can't you do anything fancy on the comport, with hardware and an event poll?
Or if it is a phone device maybe an Iaxy can do the trick?

the FXS port box works just as well.
Could you expand on this a little? For us that are not into this type of stuff. What exactly is the device one would need, and how could it be installed?
