Hi Cedric, and everyone else. I'm a unix admin/programmer working in IP network operations at Sprint Canada. I recently became interested in VoIP when I read a PBS article by Robert X. Cringely[1] about a torontonian named Andrew Greig[2], and the zany setup he created in his neighbourhood (VoIP for his neighbours, Video on Demand, internet service)
I'm particularly interested in how he's set up a softphone on his Sharp Zarus with some multi-band card that supports GSM and 802.11 WiFi. Lately I've been working on getting Asterisk to play nicely with Sprint's VoIP product (95% there), and just ordered my first Digium TDM400P card. So, welcome to the list! I hope we'll be able to arrange some events in the near future, like an asterisk install-fest, and some talks on people's setups. I know there's one person on this list who designed a really interesting configuration for the NDP that I'd like to hear about! re, spd [1] PBS article: http://www.pbs.org/cringely/pulpit/pulpit20040930.html [2] Andrew Greig's company: http://www.starnix.com [3] The Sharp Zarus! http://www.sharpusa.com/products/ModelLanding/0,1058,1255,00.html On Wed, 9 Mar 2005 00:35:38 -0500 (EST), Cedric Puddy <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > Hi All, > > I'm Cedric, a VoIP punter, and general Unix system admin. > > I've been using Vonage for the home & office POTS access, > have outsourced Cisco Call-Center based VoIP systems > to service some of my client offices' needs, have implemented > some basic H.323 based multi-site corp networks on long-obsolete > MultiTech boxes, and I'm generally familiar with basic > telephony and voip terminology/processes... > > Anyway, I'm currently keeping my eyes open, gathering tidbits > in preperation for hacking together an Asterix box.
