Leptasterias hexactis was our first choice (we even used a picture of one in our proposal)! They promised us they would try to accomodate our request (the author does not actually have the final say on the animal). The first cover arrived with a cockatoo on it. It was supposedly because they wanted to associate our book with Ted's. While we agreed that our book fit with Switching to VoIP, that cokcatoo was not going to cut it. We held out for a Starfish. Since O'Reilly gets it's cover art from publicly available libraries, finding a starfish was not easy (let alone a six-sided one).
