As far as I remember sctp was designed to closely resemble the MTP
layer three, its considered by cellular carriers (together with
diameter and sip)  to be the foundation of next gen ims
networks.Things like multi homing were always part of SS7 and will be
needed for a highly coupled network like ims.

It will definitely be nice when you can use it with *. It wont require
any new infrastructure to deploy, but it'll sure make better use of
your network cards as a whole.


In a way all these multimedia transport protocols are trying more and
more to emulate the isdn way of doing things and deliver the promises
that isdn failed to in the 90's. Maybe three years from now they will
evolve into h323 with ldap  ;)

even outside of voip sctp is something definitely that will make life easier.
