Most homes I've seen don't have a home run cable for each phone jack. One
solution for this is to deliver the unfiltered signal on pair 2 (the outside
pair, black/yellow I think) and then put the filtered signal on pair 1.
Then all you have to do is rig something up at the modem jack so that lines
1 and 2 are swapped.
Having said all that, a bix tool costs aroun $60-$90 so if you don't have
one you could save yourself some coin and grief by just springing for the
extra filters.
