Yes, I may have jumped the gun. I just found it both fascinating and scary.

One way it does relate is security. Articles like this help keep
people on their toes. They were talking about this on the radio this
morning and I can only hope that at least one business executive got
the message that security is essential. Manufacturers and big
corporations are always too slow to act. They need to start assuming
the worse and working from there.

Did you know your entire phonebook from your bluetooth cell phone
could be copied without your consent? Not just that but much much
more. A good article about bluetooth snarfing is

We are starting to see more movement with the encryption and Asterisk.
I assume that it will be quite a while before we see this in end user
products tho. As of version 1.2.4 Asterisk includes IAX encryption
support but it seems the SIP encryption bounty is still up for grabs.

Incase you were wondering Ethereal is currently able to capture RTP
streams and output to a sound file.

Do I dare mention Canadian privacy laws vs the National Security
Agency (NSA) and the USA Patriot Act? I think I just did. This could
be a good separate topic, not just with our VoIP data but our other
Internet data as well. I know with my Sympatico almost anything that I
traceroute goes though routers on USA soil.

Just food for thought and despite what you may think from this post I
am not a very paranoid guy.
