Its already been done - and the cats been outside the box almost a year now.
Not sure if there is an add on version for Asterisk though it would be
interesting. The implementation that was done, was nothing more than an IVR
system with VMail & conferencing capability -- the basic features of
Asterisk.
Cheers!

Subject: [on-asterisk] e-mail to phone call capability?
Hi everyone,
I recently got a blackberry device and was wondering if anyone knew of
an add-on for Asterisk that would allow it to check an e-mail account,
when a new e-mail arrives parse it for a telephone number (could use
XML to define a phone number field) and then calls the number and
reads the e-mail body using Festival or one of the other text to
speech converters?
The reason I ask is...my wife doesn't have a blackberry so what I want
to be able to do when I'm overseas is e-mail a gmail account I'll
setup just for this from my BB (which is only 40 cents per message
while roaming in most of Europe), then without my wife having to check
e-mail (which she only does once every few days), Asterisk would check
every 5-10 minutes for new mail, when one arrives, place a call to my
wife at home or at work saying call when you get a chance at number
XXXXXX. Then she could call me at the hotel or wherever using my
voxee.com account which would only be 1.5-2 cents per minute compared
to the $2 a minute I would pay calling her directly with my
blackberry.
Thanks,
Colin
