Jag,

This sounds like a DTMF issue. I run into this issue quite a bit.

First thing you need to find out is what codec are you using to connect on the trunk. Also, how is the DTMF being passed on to the PSTN. I've had issues if my LD supplier used MCI, and I was calling New Brunswick or Alberta. Who ever MCI was using to terminate with in those markets, the DTMF was not being passed on even though it would else where on their network.

On your end you need to ensure:
    - SIP/IAX device
       - DTMF transmission setting.
- example on a SPA-2002 ( DTMF Process INFO:Yes; DTMF Process AVT:Yes; DTMF Tx Method:Auto) - codec , if device is set to 729 and you have DTMF set to InBand the codec compression will make the digit tone hard to interpret
   - asterisk
- make sure the accounts dtmfmode matches the device ( I have mine set to auto )

At this point you will still run into issues. since your termination provider may have multiple suppliers and you have no way of knowing if or when they switch. And to confuse it it an be in whole or just a market driven by LCR.

To get around this issue I use a more expensive provider for Alberta, since they seem to never have a DTMF issue, but everyone else so far has not wok or not work consistently. And actually the last 2 days have been trying to solve dialing to Saskatoon and turned out to be due to DTMF issues. Changed routing and issue was solved.

Good Luck!

Hi Guys,

Today I was calling a company that has an auto attendant, and I was calling via my asterisk box using unlimitel, and I found that I have to wait for the person to stop talking before I can press the extension I wish to use. If I dial the extension beforehand it either does not register on their end, or it says incorrect extension was entered. Any idea why my asterisk box is not sending the correct signal while the other attendant is still speaking? I am using voip (unlimitel) with aastra 480i's??? I think it is some kind of 2 way audio problem..

I also noticed my Music on hold is not clear but rather choppy, didn't have time to troubleshoot yet... but maybe the 2 are releated?

Also would like to thank everyone involved in setting up todays workshop on OpenWRT, great job guys... I learned alot :)
