Thomas, In general voip-info.org is a great place to start when you're looking for information. In particular, here's a link to several different sets of instructions for configuring Asterisk.
http://voip-info.org/wiki/index.php?page=Asterisk#Introduction Since asterisk is such a flexible product and you don't want to use the GUIs, you're going to have to roll up your sleeves and understand some of the config files. Your project will involve at least extensions.conf and then a config file for whatever technology you're using to access that (presumably analog) line that you share with your tennants. Consider reviewing the information on the wiki. Feel free to post back with specific questions along the way. Dave On 7/31/06, Thomas Keats <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote:
HELP!!! I was pointed to a nice tutorial for the dumb me of asterisk, the main problem being that I dont' have a graphical interface used in it to make these configurations. Frankly, neither do I want one. When using linux I am much more at home in the console screen then in a 'window' format. (Tho I don't mind using ncurses graphics to configure the network.. ;) ) I am taking one step at a time, I have sjphone installed on my XP box, and asterisk running on the networked linux box, I can access 8500, voice mail boxes, and call my extensions. This is going to be a simple IVR/Digital receptionist to route calls to the proper person, so I can control who answers what call meant for what purpose... (I have tenants who use the only available line in the house which happens to also be for my home business) Right now I am a little lost creating a outbound call using the softphone, my next challenge will be in getting the box to accept inbound.. Is there another tutorial or how-to for the overly simplistic 'dumb me' who requires things to be spelled out in laymens details??...
