Hello folks,

Earlier in threads, people were interested to know the bandwidth consumption.
Based on the highest codec at 64 kbps, below is my real time analysis for a 4
minute call for all you Uncle Bandwidth Scrooge :).

This was about a 4 minute call in ulaw format. The total bytes transmitted &
received was 1,745,484 bytes or 1.7 megs. Had one used a G729 codec, it would
have been 1/8th the bandwidth, or 218,185 Bytes... or 218 Kilo Bytes.

So if you were to assume an EXACT number of 64 Kilo Bits, or 8 Kilo BYTES per
second, one would utilize a total of 480 Kilo Bytes per minute. Just less than
half a megabyte per minute.

Theoretically speaking, based on half a megabyte per minute, and having a co-lo
provider who offers 500 Giga Bytes of monthly transfer, your total bandwidth
consumed on a ULAW codec would be 432 Giga Bytes, based on a setup where you
have 20 simultaneous calls going through your Asterisk at any given time, 24/7.

If one were to make 1 cent/minute in profit from the above theoretical
scenario, one would end up with $144 per day.

Moral of the story. Save EVERY PENNY YOU CAN! :). It quickly adds up !!!

Cheers!
Reza.
