In theory this should work. In practice, you are going to suffer . . . a
lot.

First off, I am assuming you are in Bell Canada territory. Since Bell
delivers Microlink (their BRI service) on a U-interface, you will need a
device called an NT-1 to convert from the U-interface to the S/T-interface
the Digium card requires. That's going to add a few hundred bucks to your
equipment cost (assuming you can even find someone who sells them).

The next challenge is that Bell does not support any kind of trunking
services on Microlink. Back in the mid-90s Nortel came out with BRI on their
Norstar KSU, and since PRI was not yet available, we all jumped into
ordering multiple Microlink circuits. Not pretty. Nobody did that for more
than a few months; you can only stand to lose so many customers. Things like
hunting and such didn't work the way we needed them to, and the folks at
Bell didn't have any clue how the service was supposed to work, or what was
supposed to be possible (nor did they care).

Next, the DIDs. I would imagine that it would be possible to deliver DNIS on
a BRI, but I have never seen it done, and I would be very surprised if Bell
has a process in place to deliver this.

The sad truth about BRI in most of North America is that it died over 10
years ago. It's ubiquitous in Europe, but here it is as good as dead and
buried.

I wish this were not true, and maybe if hundreds of us started ordering it
we could change the industry, but the reality is that you can expect a lot
of pain, if you dare to mess with BRI on this side of the pond.
