Richard,

I have limited experience with chanskype. Here are my findings:

They release a specific version of the channel driver for specific
versions of different Linux distributions. For example, they have a
version for Ubuntu 6.06, but not 6.10. I was unable to get the 6.06
driving running under Ubuntu 6.10, but your mileage may vary.

The driver _requires_ X to be running. Each Skype channel you want to
run requires it's own X session. They handle this by walking you through
setting up VNCServer and connecting to each session via VNC for setup.
The instructions have you remove unnecessary items (backgrounds, screen
saver, etc) from the X sessions, but if you're running 20 Skype
channels, you're using a lot of system resources. Be sure to factor that
into your calculations of how big a box you have to get.

Other than that, it works as advertised (though it's a bit cumbersome to
dial Skype contacts, as you have to setup an extension that calls
Skype/contact_name). For taking advantage of Skype's $30/year for
unlimited LD calls to North America though, it's perfect.

Cheers,
Alex

Hi Sacha,

Thanks for your information.
I have looked at both but I think there is a better solution called
chanskype which I am interested in.
It comes as a driver running in the asterisk box and it can do as many
skype
session as your system can handle in terms of resources.

I wonder if you or anyone has experience with www.chanskype.com ?

thanks,
Richard

have some family using skype The solutions are out there but they all
seem
to require the skype software phone to be running either on a linux or a
windows computer. The additonal software that glues sip (connected to
asterisk) and the skype software, and takes over control of the skype
application. Some examples: uplink -
