Yes, in as long as the wireless lan is working properly (ie no high
amounts of interference etc), I've never had a problem, at one stage I
had an asterisk box hooked up to a wifi bridge adapter until cabling
could be installed (long story).

VoIP uses very little data compared with the available bandwidth of
802.11a/g or even plain old b for that matter.

You can use ATAs over normal twisted pairs but you loose out on some of
the nicer features/usability of SIP handsets.
