If you simply want to get something working fast without spelunking
through configuration files go with Trixbox. It is an Asterisk
"Distribution", essentially a CentOS distro with several Asterisk
related packages installed. The easiest way to get it working is to
download the free VMWare server software from vmware.com and download
the Trixbox vm image from trixbox.org. After a small amount of
text-based configuration (IP address, passwords, etc) you can web to it
and use FreePBX to manage it. Just don't expect to get a PCI telephony
card to work with it, you'll have to go VoIP for everything if you go
with the VM.

Like all GUIs it hides things from you and you may find that you need to
enhance it by hand-crafting dial plans and tweaking config files. It
allows some of that but it can sometimes be hard to fit within their
framework. The hard core telephony guys would never use this.

I haven't seen an unvirtualized version but with a lot of work it may be
possible. Again the easiest way would be to run one native and a second
in a VM.
