We've had a few posts about tough-to-solve volume issues. When I hear
things like this I think of the 'Voice
Changer<http://www.lobstertech.com/code/voicechanger//>'
application that was demo'd at last year's TAUG/VON meeting. I just looked
it up and it's programmed to do pitch change but I would guess that the
sound library could probably do volume adjustment just as easily.

It seems like changing the volume on a channel would be handy in a few
different cases like meetme, 3-way conferences (the remote party is almost
always too quiet) etc.

I imagine that this stuff is buried way down in the guts of things but it
would be neat if one could enable a features.conf type thing whereby, for
instance, you could hit ##7 to move your receive volume to 7 from the
default of 5. Or, maybe you could use **7 to move your transmit volume up
to 7. I could imagine saying to a participant "Hey Nick, can you hit star
star seven, I'm having some trouble hearing you."

It would probably be a lot of work, but it would be really great if MeetMe
was able to normalize (for lack of a better word) the volume on a channel.
Some thought would have to go into it, for instance, merely using a
compressor on the whole thing would raise the background noise on a quiet
channel until it was brutal. Somehow it would have to distinguish between
talking channels and idle channels, much like a speakerphone.

I wonder if extra delay would be an issue. It wouldn't help if it increased
the workload such that channels fell out of sync.

I know it doesn't solve your problem Alex but those are just some thoughts,
maybe it'll spur the creative juices of another reader.

 Hi everyone,

We're having a problem where the external users in a meetme conference are
having trouble hearing one another (external users being those who have
called in over Zap/PSTN). Those with direct extensions on the system are
able to hear everyone in the conference fine. I was told previously that
this is "just how it is" with analog lines, but I wanted to see if anyone
had any ideas. I'm hesitant to play with tx and rxgain values, as the line
volume is just fine when callers dial into an extension directly. Zap
hardware is a Sangoma A200 with hardware echo can.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Alex
