My favorite setup is using a modem and TAPI based software to send directly to the TAPI numbers. I set this up at my last place for notifications.
It works great if your just sending to a single provider, if your sending to multiple it will work too, just more of a pain. I think I pushed a few thousand messages out per month at times with no problems, (other then the modem alway dialing out) I was using sendpage I belive on Linux with a Courier External modem.
