Hi Shidan,

Asterisk was running on my Slug at home for a few months until the HDD (a dodgy, leftover laptop drive!) died. The SLUG is now resurrected on a 4GB USB stick, waiting for me to find time to configure it.

I used a Linksys SPA3102 for the POTS connection and our old answering machine. Obsolete, I know, but it all has to pass the infamous "wife test". After a bit of fiddling to get the SPA going properly it was very reliable. Also had Zoiper on my laptop so I could make calls home from work.

The setup was used to model quite a few dialplan features for the office system. I'd say it was ideal for that. Maybe you can get the Boss to pay for it! :-)

One issue I had not solved before the HDD crash was echo on the POTS line. I think it came down to latency with the ATA added to further delay from a 5.8GHz digital cordless phone. Just too much delay for the echo canceler to deal with. Next time, I might try a DECT phone unless I can find a reasonably priced SIP cordless.

My favourite feature was sending telemarketers to a ridiculous IVR. "All of our family members are currently busy serving other telemarketers. Please hold, and your call will be ignored in sequence..."

regards,

Drew
