        How long of a cable run are we talking about here?  While I don't have 
a ton of experience with echo (I RARELY encounter it at all), the TDM400 
seem like they have a lot of echo problems.

        Are you in the UK?  Are you sure that your zone settings are correct? 
What about the settings for the card/modules itself?  I know there are 
some options that you can pass at module load time to make sure that the 
card matches the impedance of the line in the country that you are in.

        As far as ztmonitor, I have modified the zaptel.mk file to install it 
by default (rev 171).  Also, I have uploaded a version you can try:
