Tim,

        The USB drivers are included in the kernel - they are not loaded as 
modules.  In order to insert a delay manually, you can add rootdelay=10 
to the kernel command line.  Give that a shot!

        I have not previously considered someone booting AstLinux from CD-ROM 
on a USB controller.  Let me know how this works...
