OK, so I did a gmail search on this list and found the dd command.  Realized with 256meg ram and a 256meg CF card, I'd never backup my card to /tmp.

Added 128Meg and set my tempfs to 276,000.

issued the command  dd if=/dev/hda of=/tmp/cfimage; sync

and found via 'top' that I had about 4900K remaining free memory.   Used Win SCP to move it off of my astlinux box.

Will this result in an image file I can use to write back to the CF card with physdiskwrite.exe ?  Or will I have to use dd to write it back if I want to go back to the way things are today?

TIA - Tom

Also, thanks to Luca who originally posted an example of using the dd command.

I'll try it this weekend.  I'm sure I've forgotton to include some file or link to be excluded from astup, but that's my own damn fault.  Once that's done, I'm interested in trying the alternate firewall config spoken of recently.

BTW, what's the best means of copying the entire contents of my CF card to my windows machine for backup purposes?

Thanks  - Tom

Hello everyone,

I have fixed the msmtp problem and made the changes available with astup.

Users from > 0.4 can run astup to get the latest release, AstLinux 0.4.3a.

       Sorry about that!
