Hello Denis,

There is a big difference between opensource and free to use. Lets not confuse that. I know its not a opensource project with a GPL licence structure, if that is what you mean.

(in the meanwhile, we've bought licences from Digium now. It was too complicated to contact the patent holders to make a deal)

One more thing: There is no "OpenSource g729 codec" at all.

You must pay the royalities if you wanna use it.

Joshua,

The codec isn't working because it it not compiled for uclibc (the C
library AstLinux uses).  You need to recompile the codec, but you
can't
do it on AstLinux because AstLinux does not include a compiler (as you
have discovered).  You can use the AstLinux development environment on
your host system to cross-compile the codec for AstLinux.

I can help you compile it, but I can't do it for you.  I am not
interested in all of the political and legal issues that can arise
from
using that code.

Also, Digium has graciously compiled their fully legal codec for
AstLinux.  It is available in recent versions of AstLinux and only
requires you to purchase a few simultaneous channels.
