Hi All,
I have been lurking for a while, and thought I would add a little to
this topic FWIW.
A while back I was running Asterisk (standard) on a Via mini ITX on
top of Fedora, and had a similar problem when asterisk would freeze,
and you could not access by console etc and hardware reset was the only
solution.
At the time I put it down to a hardware problem that was temperature
sensitive, but was never able to confirm this.
Recently I had to put this board into service as a temporary Asterisk
server, which for expediency I did using Astlinux. So far it has run
for about 6 weeks without faltering, which is longer than in its
previous incarnation.
This probably doesn't help but may give someone a clue.

Tony,
I can only offer a suggestion as how to troubleshoot your problem. We have
experienced similar situations having nothing to do with CPU utilization.
Perhaps you could verify the cpu time of the processes next time you have a
'freeze', you may find it may not be an issue of 100% utilization as we have
found.

Kevin,
Could it be that asterisk has a loop issue with uLibc? Yes it would be an
asterisk problem (or uLibC) but that is why astlinux shows it and others in
asterisk land have not found the issue?
Using uLibc does not make astlinux a "standard" UN*X implementation IMHO.

I believe this to be more of an Asterisk issue not specific to the Astlinux
packaging so I will keep it short in respect to the mailing list. As most
of our systems are PRI based this doesn't present itself that often.
However, I have seen a similar issues with locations we have with SIP
registrations on the 1.2 asterisk branch. Are you using any DNS lookups?

I would love to know. I have left the server in this state for up to 1 week
and the freeze has not unfroze. I would love to look at CPU time but I
cannot get to the console.
The box is not frozen, but will respond on the Zap channels with the
stuttered error message. I am pretty sure that is asterisk producing that
message and not zaptel, but regardless, it is not the card by it self that
gives that message. So I do not see it as frozen as it seems very busy (not
able to playback a file smoothly).
Thanks for your attention to this.

If it helps, I can remove my x100p clone. The thing is crap anyway.

Tony,
I may have missed it earlier in the thread, but what version of
Astlinux and which version of Asterisk?
Did you build it or was this from an official release?
What hardware?
CPU/Motherboard
Zap hardware

0.4.4 Astlinux
Stock i586 image but also had issues in 0.4.1 and 0.4.2. All installs are
directly off the CD install.
2 different machines
Via Pentium II MB with a 400Mhz CPU, 512M Ram, IDE drive, IDE KD
Jetway 615 mini-ITX with 1.2 Celeron, 320M RAM, CF card, 1M jump drive KD
Both systems used the same Digium TDM400 with 1 FXO module.
I have a 2.8GHz box that filled in for the one week when I let the system
sit on the JetWay. I used that temporary system to fill in for SIP calls
and kept the PSTN out of the mix. This was a raw asterisk build on CentOS
(not sure version). It only ran a week and I didn't see any problems, but I
needed that machine for something else, so I rebooted the JetWay. Typically
I can run for at least 2 weeks before I have to reboot it and putting a
reboot in the cron script doesn't solve it. It does not seem to be a
resources issue that way. It just seems to be some semi-frequent collection
of events that triggers it.
That has become the current recover steps (just reboot it). I am looking at
a X10 controller with heyu to check the admin port. If not accessible
bounce the pbx, but I should not have to run it this way.

Hi,
I'm studying a new installation for a small office: 12 SIP extensions,
1 ISDN, 2 Analog lines (FXO).
In another install I have used Soekris 4801 but during the testing
when we receive 2 simultaneous calls from ISDN the Soekris make
strange things. I suppose that Soekris not has sufficient power to
manage 2 ISDN concurrent calls.
I'm considering using Mini-ITX but there are a lot of models. I would
like to use a board without fans to avoid problems. I'm thinking to
use 2 PCI cards (ISDN and FXO). Somebody has suggestions in Mini-ITX
board? What case are you using with these boards? I will have problems
with ISDN and the actual version of AstLinux? What FXO card?
I will use Thomson ST2030 phones. I have one phone for testing and I
am really impressed with the characteristics-price of this phone.
For the ISDN part, I have a Fritz! passive card.
Any experience from real installations would be very interesting.
Regards,
Manuel
