Thanks for the suggestion, I added /etc/modprobe.conf but it appears to me
that it is still loading in FCC mode. No messages are shown in
/var/log/messages so I can't see the log entries mentioned in the wiki. I'm
assuming I should be able to see the required info with ztcfg -vvv but the
output gives me ...

    Channel map:

    Channel 01: FXS Kewlstart (Default) (Slaves: 01)
    Channel 02: FXS Kewlstart (Default) (Slaves: 02)
    Channel 03: FXS Kewlstart (Default) (Slaves: 03)
    Channel 04: FXS Kewlstart (Default) (Slaves: 04)

    4 channels configured.

So I'm assuming the (Default) is the standard FCC mode. The problem is the
FCC mode causes a lot of unnecessary echo and perhaps more worrying with
this mode is that when the telephone company run a line test the test
returns a "Customer equipment fault" result.

Any more suggestions ?
