I've tried 3 different USB flash drives (all of which have been  
confirmed to work on a desktop and laptop), a printer, a multi-card  
reader, and an external hard drive. I've also tried using a powered  
USB hub with each. In each case, there is zero indication that  
anything has been connected to the bus, much less recognized as a mass  
storage device, etc.

I was hoping I might have been missing something obvious, but yes, it  
is looking like hardware failure to me at this point.
