Good comment, defiantly a debatable subject. Personally I like the flexibility 
of regular expressions and the way they solve problems in the telephony space 
(especially number normalisation in large complex voice networks). Products 
such OCS Enterprise Voice, Cisco Call manager, NEC Sphere, Dialogic and many 
other telephony vendors now use regular expressions as a core number 
normalization feature. Deploying or administering these products now require 
some basic regular expression knowledge

Hmmm...  minor comment...  Regex's are fine for people with a lot of
*nix scripting experience, but might not be as friendly as the standard
Asterisk pattern format (XXX|XXXXXXX|XXXXXXXXXX...)
