Ubuntu (which I don't use) uses dash.  Some scripts assume that /bin/sh 
is a symbolic link to /bin/bash.  This isn't the first time that dash 
has caused a problem like this.  Since I don't use Ubuntu, the other 
developers should really comment on this.  (I use Centos 5).

Also, you should join the astlinux-devel mailing list.  Discussion about 
development related issues should be on that mailing list.
