c++ is not cpp

[r...@workstation ~]# yum provides gcc
Loading "fastestmirror" plugin

  * atrpms: dl.atrpms.net
  * base: centos.mirrors.tds.net
  * updates: mirror.sanctuaryhost.com
  * addons: updates.interworx.info
  * extras: centos.mirror.nac.net
gcc.i386 : Various compilers (C, C++, Objective-C, Java, ...)
gcc.i386 : Various compilers (C, C++, Objective-C, Java, ...)

This would indicate that 'yum install gcc' would probably solve your 
problem.
