Christopher,

Astlinux may not support alternative screen resolutions.  It's really 
not designed to be a desktop device.  Many people use serial cables or 
ssh into the console for control.

'text mode selection' support is in fact NOT included.  Adding vga=foo 
will have no affect because of that.

If you want to support that, you'd have to compile a custom kernel.

Hope that explains it, but unfortunately won't fix it for you.
