Tom, Nothing has changed in the 0.6 branch since 0.6.7 was released.
It looks like something did not build correctly. I can't say what that was with the information you provided. What specifically are you trying to gain by building your own images if you're using the default options? You can build 0.6.7 by checking out the svn 'tag' for 0.6.7.
