In the web interface...

Network Tab -> External SMTP Smart Host:

There are 6 "SMTP..." settings.  No need to edit the rc,conf file if you are 
using the web interface for external SMTP relay support.

The Edit tab allows many services to be restarted/reloaded as you mentioned.

Both the Network tab and System tab support a "System Reboot", in addition the 
System tab supports a scheduled reboot within the next 24 hours.

When using the web interface, and you need to define variables that the web 
interface does not directly support, click on...

Network Tab -> Advanced Configuration: -> User System Variables: {Edit User 
Variables}

This edits the "/mnt/kd/rc.conf.d/user.conf" file.  When concatenated with the 
other rc.conf.d/* files, it overrides any previously set variable(s).

Also, when using the CLI, keep this in mind:
