Technology is a two edged sword
I have done the same, and fortunately had direct console access to the box.
I am not sure there is another way
Even then I am not sure what is the correct way to fix this.
Others smarter than you and I will need to answer.

I just checked the plugin assuming that no rule set will apply unless I explicitly configure it...

Yes. This is a sip attack. It's the reason that I had asked Lonnie to
look at implementing something similar to 'fail2ban' for Arno's firewall
(and add it to this project). The script was added to the 0.7.2 release.
