When I started playing in this space a few years ago I looked at the
blackfin. It was in its infancy then. The attractive feature of the boxes
was the built-in analog interfaces, meaning that you did not need an ATA
device to bridge to traditional phones, PBX's or CO lines. However as
things stand today I don't know that I care any more. Analog support is
really just a interim step between the past and the future. Today the range
of SIP devices is very broad and the price point of SIP phones has declined
to be comparable to analog (for office class devices). SIP based trunk
services are now just as good as POTS.
As already observed, there are plenty of x86 based appliance devices to
chose from. Whatever advantage the blackfin had a couple of years ago, I no
longer think is relevant.
