Fax unfortunately is still used in a lot of places.. esp where a physical signature is needed(sign a document then fax back.. wheres it required to go paper at some point).. not many people have scanners, at least not at home, or in a small office... all-in-one devices are around but I still have to support fax in all my phone system installations..
With astlinux I setup up fax extensions to always use u-law no compression and have success with them working.. im not gonna say its 100% but its never an issue of a fax going through.. its just sometimes it will go slower or take the machine to use its second try.. -Christopher -----Original Message----- From: John Novack [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Saturday, October 02, 2010 8:19 AM To: AstLinux Users Mailing List Subject: Re: [Astlinux-users] T.38 pass through support? He seemingly didn't read much of the link he posted. No mention of AstLinux there. Unfortunately, every list has some that are quick to throw Google in one's face, rather than either simply not reply or give their own experiences on the subject. Fax support in Asterisk seems to be somewhat of an iffy thing. The puzzling thing to me is the interest in a dying technology. With so many other ways to transmit documents these days, Fax, at least in the US, is on the decline at a rapid rate. If there are no good answers, you might want to put together a test bed and relate your experiences back to the list.
