Morning all

A very minor issue I've come across is that sometimes our 0.7.2 (as was then
- 0.7.3 now) boxes stop delivering voicemail emails. I tend not to be
notified of this by users for some time, and sometimes even not at all. A
reboot of Astlinux causes all the queued messages to be delivered at once,
causing much hilarity and confusion. On occasion, I've not been told that
the emails have stopped arriving, have upgraded Astlinux, rebooted, and
suddenly all these emails have appeared.

So far, this has only happened at remote offices. Our mail server is at our
HQ. I am guessing that the issue is that the remote Astlinux boxes have lost
contact with the mail server at some point (such as when the VPN - not
managed by Astlinux - has temporarily gone down), but the boxes have not
successfully detected that the mail server has come back up. The remote
boxes add a route to the head office subnet via rc.elocal.

What mechanism, and perhaps what timings, does Astlinux use to detect that
the specified mail server is once more available? If I become aware that
this behaviour is ongoing again, I'll mail the list, and one of the devs can
hop onto the box if that would help. To stress, this is not at all a big
issue, but I thought it would be of interest.

Thanks

Tom
