You can build on to AstLinux your self.
This doc previously posted by Lonnie in the list can help you get started:

Please note that building your own firmware is not an easy task. I got
stuck in a few places but manage my way out and for references on the build
the correct mailing list is astlinux-dev
Follow the doc and post the question in the correct list and should not get
in trouble like I did :P
