I've noticed how you are struggling through the past weeks getting your net5501 
to work.  This should be a 5-10 minute process of writing the CF card, booting 
the net5501 and following the install instructions Michael pointed out.  That 
simple.

Clearly this is not the situation in your case... :-(

Possibly there is something wrong with your net5501, did you purchase it new, 
ebay, ?  Are you using a SanDisk CF card ?  Are you using comBIOS ver. 1.33c ?

The fact that AstLinux is using /dev/sdb, is a clue that you may not be using a 
SanDisk CF card.

For reference I'm posting my net5501's comBIOS startup using the serial port at 
19200 baud.  Type Control-P to get into the comBIOS Monitor, then type "show"...

During the install process, after the Format and 1st reboot, where does it fail 
?  That text off the serial port would be very useful.
