interesting stuff.. because if you believe the scores at cpubenchmark then the
D525 was 697 vs the N2800 626 or more than 10% slower than the D525.
what is the PHP script you use to test? for me though the real test is
telephone calls and voice quality.. I may get one of these and do my typical
"not so scientific" voice quality test.. which is using SIPP, I generate calls
to a test number in my dialplan which answers, plays an announcement then hangs
up.. no transcoding just straight ulaw.. all the while I have another call up
to the system that im monitoring the voice quality of, when I see the numbers
on that call start to degrade I know ive hit the limit my system can handle...
the test system running SIPP initiating the calls is a core i7-4770k so it can
easily bring down any smaller appliance before it would not be able to initiate
the calls anymore.
the call that stays up being monitored is an analog port connected to an Adtran
IAD which has built in VQM statistics tracking which is pretty accurate!

Lanner. It is included in the somewhat specialized "Digital Signage / Machine
Vision and Control" category, clearly this is a ubiquitous x86 embedded
platform.

Details:
The labor required to to get a working AstLinux system is the least possible.
Simply place the box on it's back and unscrew the four rubber feet (no tools
required), the whole back opens like a car hood. Everything is easily
accessible, (note static conductive 'pillows' to connect the NIC's and USB's to
the case). No screws, no removing cards or antennas, no heat spreader addition
and no BIOS setup changes necessary. So, given a SO-DIMM and a CF card blessed
with AstLinux it literally takes only 1-2 minutes to have AstLinux booting from
opening the shipped box. Add another minute or two for a SATA SSD, all cables
provided.
Performing iperf tests (Mac -> eth1 -> eth0 -> Mac) were at near Gb line speed,
(853 Mbps) at 78% idle (via top). It is interesting that the Lanner FW-7541D
with the same NIC's is 923 Mbps, not sure why the difference, but great
performance regardless.
Comparing the Intel Atom D525 vs. N2800 in a PHP benchmark script, the N2800 is
6% faster...

Note that VCORE does vary to save power and reduce heat, typically 0.86 V to
1.05 V
The LEC-7220 works as expected in every way. The case is only slightly warm to
the touch, I have not yet seen either temperature rise to 50 C when operating
at at room temperature.
The LEC-7220 BIOS is from AMI, and the defaults work perfectly with AstLinux.
Though not as complete (fewer options) then the Jetway AMI BIOS.
Minor quibbles, the SO-DIMM must be unlatched to replace the CompactFlash card.
Additionally the COM1 and COM2 labels on the case appear to be reversed, as
ttyS0 uses the serial port labeled COM2. I reported this back to Lanner and
expect this to be addressed in the future.
Summary:
For a VoIP-only AstLinux platform acting as the firewall/router, the Lanner
LEC-7220 ticks every checkbox. Fanless, only slightly warm to the touch, both
CF and SATA storage, 4x Intel NIC's and build quality that would make a German
drool. If only Lanner would produce this box in high volumes and allow Logic
Supply, Newegg, etc. to retail these in the $300 USD range. Until then,
purchasing direct from Lanner is the best method to obtain this excellent
AstLinux hardware.
Disclaimer, keep in mind I have tested this box for less than a week. I have
no affiliation with Lanner.
