Adrian, True, AstLinux takes measures to reduce writes to flash storage.
But, there are important things that need to be immediately written to flash storage, such as voicemail, CDR logs, mail, etc. . The system logs are in RAM by default. Many years of practical use in the field, this has demonstrated to be a nice balance, AstLinux has been around for almost 10 years ! I have relatively old CF Flash cards that still work fine, and newer flash storage have even better wear-leveling features. While a lot has been written about flash's limited write cycles, with modern wear-leveling, it is not a general problem. If you are concerned, SLC flash is better than MLC flash, also if you only need 1-2 GB of storage, a 4-8 GB storage media will allow the wear-leveling to spread the wear over more area.
