Thanks for your vote... I think the common thread is "links" has been useful in 
the past, but a text-only browser without javascript is practically worthless 
today.  And who knows what security issues there might be as you are often 
running as root.

Currently "links" is no longer part of the default AstLinux builds in the SVN, 
of course you can enable it with a custom build and we support the current 
latest "links" version.

We added to the WiKi how to use: ssh -D NNNN ...

Either "links" or a SOCKS-proxy require an SSH session, by simply adding -D5000 
and a proxy swap in your browser you are using a modern browser, and not 
running as root on your AstLinux box.
